Our Little Project Guide

  • 1. Planning and Concept Stage.

This is where we start by understanding your needs for the project. For plumbing, we’ll decide where water pipes, drains, or fixtures like taps, basins, and showers will go. For electrical, we’ll plan where you need sockets, light switches, and power for appliances. At this stage, we also check if the project is feasible, discuss initial costs, and ensure your ideas comply with UK building regulations and safety standards.

  • 2. Design Phase

Next, we turn your ideas into detailed plans. For plumbing, this means designing water supply and drainage systems, while for electrical, we focus on wiring layouts, circuit plans, and lighting positions. We’ll handle applications for any required permissions, including building control approval if necessary, ensuring the work meets UK regulations such as Part P (Electrical Safety) and Part G (Sanitation). This gives you peace of mind that the project is fully compliant.

  • 3. Pre-Construction Preparation

Before starting work, we ensure everything is in place. We finalise the budget, procure materials such as copper pipes, fittings, wiring, and switches, and schedule the work. We also coordinate with other tradespeople, ensuring the plumbing and electrical work fits seamlessly with other parts of the project, like plastering or carpentry. Clear planning ensures the job stays on track and avoids unnecessary delays.

  • 4. Installation

The installation process is divided into two phases: first fix and second fix.

During the first fix, we complete the foundational work hidden within walls, floors, and ceilings. For plumbing, this includes installing pipework for water supply and waste systems to ensure efficient flow and drainage. For electrical, it involves running cables and fitting backboxes for sockets and switches. This phase sets the groundwork for the final stages.

Every step is carried out with meticulous attention to detail to ensure compliance with Gas Safe regulations and UK safety standards. We work closely with other trades to maintain a smooth workflow and deliver systems that are built to last.

In the second fix, we make your systems fully operational. For plumbing, this involves connecting taps, showers, and sanitaryware, as well as fitting radiators and boilers to complete your heating and hot water systems. For electrical, we install sockets, switches, light fixtures, and finalise the consumer unit (fuse box), ensuring everything is safe and ready for use.

  • 5. Testing and Final Checks

At Marshalls Co, we carry out rigorous testing to ensure your new electrical, gas, and plumbing installations are safe, efficient, and built to the highest standards. For electrical systems, we thoroughly check circuits, connections, and components to ensure they function correctly and meet UK safety regulations.

For gas systems, our Gas Safe registered engineers conduct detailed tests, including pressure checks, tightness testing, and appliance inspections, ensuring full compliance with safety standards and reliability for everyday use.

For plumbing, we verify that water flows efficiently, pressure is consistent, and all fixtures operate as intended. While issues are unlikely with new installations, our careful approach ensures everything is in perfect working order. With Marshalls Co, you can trust that every detail has been checked to provide systems that are ready to perform flawlessly.

  • 6. Handover and Maintenance

Once the project is complete, we’ll hand everything over to you, ensuring you’re fully informed about your new plumbing, electrical, and gas systems. We’ll explain how everything works, provide any required certifications, and offer advice on maintaining your systems to keep them running efficiently and safely. For gas installations, we’ll recommend regular servicing, such as annual boiler checks, and for electrical systems, routine safety inspections.

To make things easier, Marshalls Co will notify you when it’s time for recommended services or checks, ensuring you stay on top of maintenance without any hassle. Should you need upgrades, repairs, or additional work in the future, our team will always be ready to assist, ensuring your systems remain reliable for years to come.
